BamaBands:Where did the name Laylines come from?
Laylines:
The name Laylines comes from several differentmeanings. It's a reference to "underground channels of energy" and phenomenon
where spiritual places fall in lines- called Laylines".We don't actually adopt the name for it's meaning, but rather for it's
simplicity and the way it sounds.
BamaBands: Where are you from?
Laylines: We are all originally from
Selma, AL. We all grew up there. Two of us still live in Selma, one is in Montgomery and the other in Birmingham.
BamaBands:
What is the band's History?
Laylines: The bands history is fairly complex. We have all
played in each others bands
for almost 10 years. Actually, Justin and Greg have had several projects prior to Laylines. These projects (Giving up the
Ghost and Drive
Fast Take Chances) actually evolved into this band. We were being scouted by a label out of Atlanta when
we were DFTC. We were a 3 piece then (Greg,Justin and Adam). We needed a bigger sound so we recruited Zac. Once he entered
the band, our sound and writing just took off. We worked really hard playing shows and writing an album. This lead
to
being picked up by a management company out of Los Angeles called Redhare Entertainment in 2005.These guys are booking our
shows and handling all the business. It's pretty great.
BamaBands:What type of Music do you play?
Laylines:
When we are asked this question, the response that we typically give is "our music is honest and evolving". People tend to
categorize it in the
Rock, Alternative, Indie genre. We are pretty blessed when it comes to writing. This process seems
to come very natural and we don't think about what current trend is hot or what other bands are doing. We just get in a room
and let things come out.
BamaBands: Who are your influence and have they changed since you have been playing?
Laylines:I think each of our personal influences are very diverse. Yet, the four of us have all been fans of particular
bands since their conception. That
has a lot to do with our connection as a band. We find that common music connection.
Most of these bands we have in common are just great song writers. That's what brings us together with the music we write.
As far as our influences changing, I think we will always have our "Go To" bands that we will always love. But, I think as
musicians...we are intrigued by some of the bands we see and hear while playing out.
BamaBands: What was your
first show, and how did the crowd react to you?
Laylines: I think our first show as Laylines was played in Birmingham
several years ago. We actually played a totally different set list then. It's a great feeling knowing you can play original
music and people connect with it. We have always had a little bit different sound, but I think that's
what attracts people
to Laylines. People see the originality and the honesty.
BamaBands: What is your fav. song to play?
Laylines:
I know this probably will sound cliché', but we like to play all the songs. That's an agreement we have when writing and adopting
the song into the set. If we all don't like it, then it never makes the list. That's
what makes great albums.
BamaBands:
Where would be your dream concert and with whom?
Laylines: I think my personal dream concert would be a night concert
at any amphitheatre across the country. That would be so liberating. I wouldn't mind playing a show with Weezer or The Fire
Theft.
BamaBands: Do you have any org. songs and cds out right now,if so where can someone go to get them?
Laylines:
We are an all original band. We don't play covers. That's what I love about this band. So, all of our songs are original.
We have an EP that you can pick up either at shows or on myspace (Myspace.com/Laylines).
BamaBands: Where did
you see the band in a year?
Laylines:I see Laylines in a year promoting a full length album. We are currently gearing
up and writing a few new songs for this album. We should be going in this summer to record it. Our whole mission is to write
the
music we love and to enjoy every minute of it.
